New York Engagement at Washington Square Park
To me, getting your engagement photos taken by your wedding photographer is SO important.
Why you may ask? For a lot of couples, they have little to no experience when it comes to posing in front of the camera. With that, the idea of them having professional photos taken on one of the most special days of their lives may make them just a WEE BIT nervous. What’s vital to feeling comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day, is being comfortable with your wedding photographer. Engagement photos are the perfect place to get to know your wedding photographer, their shooting style, how they photograph and where you can practice posing! On my end, I absolutely love being able to know my couples through and through before their wedding day. Something so big and important, I want to know ALL of the deets. You hear me? ALL OF THEM!
When Denice + Austin reached out to me for their wedding in 2022 and we began planning their engagement session, I was so excited. They both really wanted to do something outside of the scope of New Jersey and of course what’s the next best thing? That’s right, New York! More specifically, Washington Square Park.
The Love Story
Austin and Denice are high school sweethearts and began dating April 24, 2010, for close to 11 years. They technically met in Pre-K and they actually have a picture of him holding the door for Denice during after-school pickup. They went to different elementary schools after Pre-K and didn't officially meet until freshman year of high school. They got engaged on July 25, 2020 at Ringwood Manor. Denice thought she was going to a wine tasting with her friends, but they brought her to where he was waiting under a floral arch (so cute, right?). Both of them are very family-oriented and love spending time with family and friends for fun. They both work nights and have crazy schedules as Austin is a state corrections officer and Denice is an emergency department social worker. Despite their crazy schedules, when they do have time off together they’re either relaxing or with family and friends.
Engagement Photos at Washington Square Park
The weather on this day was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining and it was the PERFECT summer day if you ask me. Of course we made sure to get some foot poppin’, smile & giggling photos in front of the Washington Centenary Arch (what a mouthful, huh). We also made sure to get some shots in front of the fountain which is smack dab in the center of the park. A cool and refreshing area especially on a warm and sunny summer day such as this one.
After, we basically just walked around New York and whatever we saw that looked nice, we took some photos! Colorful door? You got it. Vines crawling up the side of a building? Yes please! We really admired the art and architecture that is New York so honestly… the city did ALL of the talking.
As the day came to an end, I couldn’t help but think how grateful I am that I get to capture such special and intimate moments for my couples. Thank you D+A for entrusting me in this process and I can’t wait for your wedding in 2022!
